Commercial Van Wrap Prepress: Sprinters, ProMasters, and Panel Alignment

Commercial vans are the bread and butter of the wrap industry. Mercedes Sprinters, Ram ProMasters, and Chevy Express vans pay the bills. But because these vehicles are massive rolling billboards, design mistakes are magnified.

Wrapping a commercial van requires absolute precision during the prepress phase. Here is how to navigate the trickiest parts of cargo van geometry using 1:20 scale vector templates.

The Plastic Trim Problem Commercial vans are covered in unpainted, textured plastic trim to protect them on job sites. Vinyl does not adhere well to textured plastic. If your designer uses a low-quality template, they might accidentally bleed the company's website URL directly onto the lower plastic rocker panels. When the installer cuts the vinyl away from the plastic, the website gets chopped off. GravBase vector templates explicitly outline all unpainted plastic cladding so you know exactly where your printable canvas ends.

Navigating the Sliding Door Track The side profile of a Sprinter or ProMaster features a deep, horizontal channel for the sliding door track. This track is the enemy of typography. If you run a word directly across the side of the van, the track will slice through the middle of the letters. Use our highly accurate vector hardware callouts to position your text safely above or below the channel.

Wheelbase Variations A Ram ProMaster comes in a 118", 136", and 159" wheelbase. A Mercedes Sprinter comes in a 144" and 170" wheelbase. Do not try to stretch a short-wheelbase template to fit a long-wheelbase van. The wheels will stretch into ovals, and the panel gaps will completely misalign.

Always search the GravBase catalog for the exact model year, roof height, and wheelbase of the van sitting in your bay.
