Introducing the GravBase Wrap Designer: Bridging Digital Mockups and Physical Production
Share
For years, the commercial wrap industry has been plagued by a persistent disconnect between digital design and real-world execution. Getting a client to approve a concept is only half the battle; the real friction begins when you attempt to translate that approved artwork onto a physical vehicle using distorted, auto-traced files. The hours lost to file cleanup, scaling adjustments, and misaligned panels cut directly into a shop's bottom line.
To solve this, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the GravBase Wrap Designer, a powerful new experimental tool now live on our platform. Built for commercial sign makers, graphic designers, and installers, this web-based application is designed to streamline your workflow from the initial pitch to the final vinyl plot.
A Logical Approach to Wrap Design
The premise of the Wrap Designer is straightforward: Pick your vehicle, drop in your design, and see it live. Rather than fighting with clunky software just to generate a mockup, we have engineered an intuitive, browser-based canvas that operates entirely at our mathematically precise 1:20 scale.
Here is how the new workflow breaks down:
1. The Vehicle Selection
Drop the endless search for accurate wireframes. The designer allows you to instantly search our catalog by year, make, and model, giving you immediate access to over 9,000 hand-crafted, production-ready templates. Because we strictly prohibit automated raster-tracing, you are starting your layout on a foundation of clean geometry and minimized anchor points.
2. The Canvas and Layout Tools
Once your vehicle is loaded, the true utility of the designer takes over. The workspace features intuitive layer hierarchies, allowing you to easily isolate body contours, windows, and trim.
- Customization: Upload your own client artwork, utilize shape primitives, and drop in custom text.
- Base Wrap Coloring: You can instantly change the color of every originally white body panel simultaneously, while windows and trim retain their natural colors.
- Familiar Controls: We incorporated standard keyboard shortcuts (like ⌘/Ctrl + Z for undo, Space for panning, and bracket keys for arranging layers) so experienced designers can work at their normal, rapid pace.
3. Real-World Print Layouts (Coming Soon)
We are actively building out a "Print Panel Layout" feature that takes the guesswork out of the final plotter setup. Your design will automatically break down into standard 5-foot-wide vinyl panels. You will be able to preview the panel breakdown, adjust for seam overlap to prevent visible gaps, and ensure you have enough bleed for installers to properly wrap the edges.
4. Review, 3D Preview, and Export
When the design is dialed in, the tool generates a 3D visual preview of your wrapped vehicle. While this serves as a fantastic reference tool for client approvals, the real value lies in the export. You can save the layout directly to your GravBase account or immediately download a PDF proof. From there, you can transition seamlessly into your RIP software, scaling the provided vector files by 2000% for flawless physical production.
Built for the Commercial Shop
Every feature in the GravBase Wrap Designer was developed with a practical, zero-friction philosophy. We want to eliminate the billable hours wasted on file prep so you can focus on what actually generates revenue: getting the vehicle wrapped and out the door.
The experimental beta is live right now. You can log in, access your saved designs across any device, and test the tools without ever needing to remember a password. Just enter your email, and we send you a secure access code.
Open the Wrap Designer to test it out, and let us know what features your shop needs next.
